We’d like to thank a few people…

8th October 2019

We are so grateful to Dru Riches-Magnier at Drucifixion for his help in getting our new website up and running. It got us thinking about all the people who have helped us along the way.  Tap on Tap was inspired by the swing dance community where dance is social, accessible and knows no age limits. It struck us that it would be fun to get together regularly with like minded people and tap dance in a venue that felt more accessible and fun than a dance studio. Helen had an idea for a name, wrote it down on a piece of paper and stuck it to the kitchen cabinet while the idea took shape. The three of us who lead Tap on Tap met as dancers in a previous life and are also trained tap dance teachers but ‘rediscovered’ – after building careers, families –  our love of tap relatively recently. We agreed to give it a shot. Close friends and partners cheered us on. The hugely talented Andrew White helped with some graphic design work –  check him out at www.andinc.co.uk –  we made a Facebook event, invited our friends and family and jumped in. We hosted our first Tap on Tap in May 2017. Tap on Tap has been running for about two and a half years now but it was finding our regular home at Blackmarket VIP with support from Ash Jacobs that was a turning point for us. What was initially a bi-monthly event became a monthly event. So many hours of unseen preparation go into each Tap on Tap – finding music, choreographing routines, creating playlists, admin – that it would be remiss not to recognise the Tap on Tap teachers and guest teachers who give up their free time to choreograph routines to teach us. Special mention to our guests teachers Debbie Dyson and Jackie Hutt for two really popular routines. We’ve welcomed performances from adult tap groups in the area – Thank you to Chloe, Tom, Viv and Tim and their dancers. We’ve hosted live music nights with The Rufus Stone Band – thank you to Rufus, James, Richmond, Kim and Rob. Most of all we are grateful to those of you who come to Tap on Tap. Whether you come once in a while, or every month, thank you for your support. We love tap dancing with you all.
